Chrysler Repair: 2000 neon cannot remove ignition key, key cylinder, lock cylinder

I cannot remove my ignition key, i have checked to make sure the shift button is all the way out when in park, you can hear it clicking when i push in and let off the shift button. any suggestions?

Hi Brian,
I would try taking the lock cylinder out of the steering column housing. Then you can have a better chance of removing it, or you can go to a locksmith with it. Remove the shrouds by removing the two screws on the underside of the column; then separate the lower and upper shrouds that are snapped together by using hand pressure on the seams. Then put the ignition switch in the 'on' position. Then notice a tab on the underside of the key cylinder housing which when pressed will allow you to pull on the key and both it and the entire cylinder will come out. When you get it fixed insert it as if it is in the 'on' position so that it mates with the ignition switch slot. You may want to disconnect the battery rather than leave the ignition 'on' until the lock cylinder is repaired.
