Chrysler Repair: 1992 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE:starter/engine dies, plymouth grand voyager, grand voyager

Question
Hi! I was driving my car to work and at speed of 60 MPG it jerked few times and that was it. I got to work and on a way back it started doing again at 50 MPH and would shut off then at 30 then it died. Every time I tried to start it would start rough and then it would idle fine until I put it gear and drive and it would die on me again. Then it came to complete start. I tried to start it wouldn't start. At the end I couldn't even turn a starter. I checked starter, battery, new coumputer it's all good. Not getting power to a yellow wire on relay. Jumped it and it started. It seems like I have an empty slot at Fuse #10. What is going on ?????

Answer
Hi Nick,
I have the '91 and '93 diagrams which are similar but not identical so I have to see what the common aspects are of them for your '92. In neither year was the fuse 10 slot used, so that is normal. The yellow wire at the starter relay comes from the ignition switch and is what provides power to the relay's actuation coil. If you don't get 12v in the start position of the ignition switch then either the switch points are bad, or if you have a clutch pedal you weren't stepping on the clutch pedal or that switch is out of adjustment/failed, or if you have an automatic then the by-pass jumper is not connected around that switch, or the wire is otherwise disconnected. Try moving/shaking those parts until you get a reliable 12v on the wire at the starter relay and that should show you the basis of the problem.
On the dieing, that too could be the ignition switch, but just in case use the key to get any fault codes in the computer memory:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light that remains 'on' to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to be sure of an accurate set of flash counts. Then combine the counts in pairs in the order of appearance to form the 2-digit fault codes. Then either write back or go too www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a decode list.

PS Please write back and tell me which engine you have and also tell me whether or not you have fuses in slot 4, 8, and 28 which is going to tell me whether the wiring is like the '91 or the '93 manual. Thanks
