Chrysler Repair: buying parts in Europe, bucharest romania, crossover cable

Question
QUESTION: My name is Stochita Marius. I`m from Europe, Romania. I`ve broken the shift cable from the gearbox. It had been frozen and I`ve broken it. Where can I buy another one because in Romania I couldn`t find? A site? thanks

ANSWER: Hi Stochita,
I don't know of a site that I can suggest. Can you tell me the year, make, model, body style, engine, and type of transmission; and is this a steering column- or floor-mounted shifter, and in what country was the car first sold?
I will see what the part number and cost is, here in the USA, Also have you observed exactly which part is broken off and will a simple cable replacement part solve the problem? I will let you know the cost and possibly I can send it to you.

QUESTION: Chrysler Voyageur 2.5 CRD, transmission manualy, bought from Spain in 2001. My father has found that cable. It was called gearshift crossover and he bought it from Bucharest, Romania. Price - 180$. I think it`s a little bit expensive. What do you think? Thank you very much

Answer
Hi Stochita,
I checked with a dealer and learned that because the minivan you have was designed for the export market (diesel with a manual trans, not sold in the USA) he would not be able to easily get a spare part for it. So your finding a part in Europe was probably the only easy way to get it.
I did look in my Chrysler repair manual for '02 (which I believe would apply to your '01 model) and found about 10 pages with text and figures that shows how to replace the crossover cable. I can xerox and airmail those to you if you would like to have them for whoever does the repair. Let me know your postal mailing address.
