Chrysler Repair: Suspension noise from front when turning, lebaron convertible, cv axle

Question
Hello Roland: My wife owns an '88 LeBaron Convertible with a 2.5L engine. She loves the car which is why I restored it rather than buying new. It now has a new Engine, Transmission and complete new suspension on it. the problem is, when she turns to the right from a stop (eg at an intersection) There is a grinding noise that sounds like its coming from the RH strut area. The tires are not rubbing in the wheel well (I also restored the body and the wheel wells are painted underbody black and there are no rub marks)I can find no evidence of metal on metal wearing which should be easy to spot as its all new under there. Could I have misaligned the drivetrain and this noise may be the CV axle? I have run out of ideas on this one!

Answer
Hi Alan,
Yes, anytime you hear a grinding/clicking sound from the front end primarily when turning, the first thing to check is the outer cv joint boot on that side to see if it is torn/leaking grease. If so, if you get to it quickly and remove the half-shaft and replace boot/regrease joint you may avoid the need to replace it. So take a look at the ribbed area of the boot and also look for signs of grease to have been flung out onto the nearby suspension parts.
