Chrysler Repair: 92 colt 1.5 mis-firing on 2 and 3, spark plug wires, accurate count

Question
Hi I just rebuilt the motor in my 92 colt and after getting all the timing in line it started but runs rough i pulled the plugs and only 1 and 4 had been firing i have put a rebuilt distributor, plugs and wires in, in the past few months. Could the timing be off 180 degrees? or would the problem come from the ignition side?

Answer
Hi Andrew,
If you mean is the distributor rotor off by 180 degrees, no I doubt that because it would probably not fire on any of the cylinders if that were the case. Have you tested the compression of the 2 and 3 cylinders? Are you sure you have the spark plug wires in the proper order at the distributor cap? I don't have a manual for that engine but the spark order should be shown somewhere on the engine. I don't know about how fault codes might be checked but you could try the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light which remains 'on, to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the nubmer of flashes before each pause, then repeat to be sure of an accurate count. The let me know the number of counts in the order of appearance.
