ANSWER: Hi Alan,
I don't happen to have the '96 manual and there is a discrpency between the '95 and '98 manuals that I do have for reference. Try this procedure from the '98 and please let me know whether it works, and also if not and I'll give you the one from the '95:
Use the working fob to open the door and thus disarm the security system
Insert key in ignition
Turn key to 'run' but don't start the engine
Use the working fob press and hold the unlock for between 4 and 10 seconds
While holding the button, but before 10 seconds has passed, press the panic button. A single chime will sound indicating the system is ready to accept the new fob.
Within 30 seconds of the chime, press any button on the new fob
After 30 seconds or in you turn the key to off, the acceptance function will cease.
The chime will sound again to verify that.
Now try to see if the new key fob will lock and unlock the doors.

QUESTION: Hi Roland,

First I want to thank you for the very detailed instructions on your suggestion.  Unfortunately, after 3 attempts it became apparent that the 98' procedure was not going to work.  All 3 attempts did not produce the "Chirp" that you indicated.  Please send the 95' procedure and I'll try it.

Again Thank you for your time and knowledge.

Alan

Answer
Hi Alan,
There is a separate remote keyless entry module located above the radio at the rear of instrument panel. You don't have to go to the module but rather find a dark green pigtail wire by opening the glove box:
open and lower the glove box door
locate the dark green pigtail wire with molded insulator on the end
located behind the lowered end of the glove box (probably on the side closer to the radio, probably coming down to the glove box opening from behind the radio where the module is located?)
Turn the ignition switch on
Ground the end of the pigtail (i.e. touch the wire after removing the insulator to a shiny structural metal surface nearby).  The door locks should lock/then unlock confirming it is ready to program
(liftgate solenoid will not cycle)
Press any button on the key fob to set code
The locks will cycle to confirm programming
Disconnect the pigtail from ground
Reinstall glove box
Good luck and please let me know.
Thanks.
Roland
