Chrysler Repair: Door ajar wont go off and dome light stays on as bell rings and lights flicker! Please help, door latch, spring return

Question
One day the door ajar light came on so I got out and slammed doors until it went out. Then a few days later driving down the road it lit up and the door locked and unlocked several times. It may come on when you stop quickly or take a sharp turn. We can't find no rhyme or reason it happens. We thought it was due to pressure on the back hatch door, then do to it coming on when we stopped we thought maybe the sensors on those little prongs on one of the sliders was the answer and we are finally at a loss for any reason due to it never happens consistently with any common issue. We need help fixing this problem. The van is great other than this and we have never had any problems what so ever besides this one which is driving us NUTS. Any suggestions. Thanks Terri

Answer
Hi Terry,
You are correct that one of the door ajar sensors is the problem. The best thing to do is to try to push in on the doors from outside the van (i.e. in the direction of closing also in the case of hatch or the sliding door, if the light is staying "on") or push out on the doors from inside the van to try and turn the light "on") and thus identify which door sensor is the culprit. Once you find out which you merely have to adjust the door latch/striker interface slightly to secure that door more tightly. Usually you just have to loosen a couple of screws on one or the other of the those latch together components and move it slightly inward or outwards as the case may be so that the push button sensor is moved deeper against its spring return action. Or you can build up the tip of the sensor with some 2-part epoxy plastic hardener material so it will be pushed in further by the door.
First figure which door is the problem, then study how to latch it tighter or push the ajar sensor in further by building up its tip or by building up the surface of the interface that strikes it (like epoxy a coin on the surface that presses on the sensor tip).
