Chrysler Repair: Automatic headlamp Light Sensor, 1997 chrysler lhs, chrysler lhs

Question
1997 Chrysler LHS has lights on all the time when running even during the day. I suspect the sensor but don't know where to find it. Is it the same bump in the middle of the dash that flashes when the alarm is armed???

Answer
Hi Al,
There is an ambient sunlight sensor in the middle of the dash top pad that uses its input for both the automatic headlamps and operting the automatic temp control systen. Its input goes to the body computer which will turn on the headlamps when the switch is in the AUTO position.
I believe the sunlight sensor and security lamp are contained within the same housing, but take a look. It would be a separate "window" in that housing, separated from the flashing light.
Have you noticed any lack of accuracy in the temp controls of the AC/heater system? You could check out the bcm memory for a fault code by means of a diagnotic fault code reader, or alternatively do a self-diagnostic test on the ATC unit to see it has noticed a fault in the sunlight sensor.
Here is how to do that:The engine has to be running and the car not in motion to do the test. Simultaneously press the floor, mix, and defrost buttons, (the 1st,2nd and 4th on the top row) and see if the display unit begins to blink. Release the buttons when it has started to do that and then after it blinks for a while longer watch for two digit numbers to appear on the readout. Those are the fault codes. If the first number appears and stays in place, push on the first button in the bottom row (panel) to continue the readout. At the end of the readout the unit will return to normal settings. A code 27 says the sun sensor has a problem.
