Chrysler Repair: 95 town and coutry fuel, fuel injection system, position sensors

Question
Is there a fuel delivery cut off and where is it so I can reset it? Or is it common that the fuel pump is bad?

Answer
Hi Lenny,
In an pressurized fuel injection system there is a safety cut off system to prevent fire in the event of an accident. This is carried out by the autoshutdown relay which you will find in the power distribution box under the hood near the battery. That relay is programmed to operate the fuel pump for about 1 second when you first turn the ignition key to "run". Listen for that humming sound to come from the fuel tank between the rear wheels. If you hear it then the ASD relay and pump and fuse (#5 in the power distribution box) are OK. The ASD opens up after that until you move the key to start at which point if the engine rotation position sensors are working the engine controller will re-close the points of the ASD which starts the pump and the spark until either you stop cranking or the engine catches and runs on its own power.
So what is the problem?
If you aren't sure do a fault code readout using the ignition key: 'on-off-on-off-on and leave on' doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light, which remains on, to begin to flash, pause, flash etc.
Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to be sure of an accurante set of counts. Group the counts in pairs to form the two-digit fault codes. The last code is always 55 which is the code for "end of readout". Go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a code translation. Or write back and tell me the codes and we'll go from there. I assume the engine won't start, correct?
