Chrysler Repair: 1997 Sebring:check engine light on, independent shop, accurate count

Question
The engine light stays on.  Driven about 15 miles with the light on.  Oil and water levels are okay.  What other reasons could there be that the engine light burns all the time.

Answer
Hi Travis,
That light means that a pollution system is not working and needs attention. I suggest that you get a code readout for which item is at fault. This can be done at an Autozone parts store for free or for around $40 at an independent shop. You might be able to use the ignition key:
'on-off-on-off-on and leave on', doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time.  The check engine light remains 'on' and then may begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to get an accurate count. Then write back with the numbers, in the order of apperance. It may also be the case that when you do the routine some numbers will appear in the odometer window of the cluster. If so, tell me those numbers.
