Chrysler Repair: Camshaft problems?, chrysler town and country, crank shaft

Question
Our 1994 Chrysler Town and Country mini van has started stalling at random times while driving at 70 mph or 30 mph.  The van will restart some times immediately other times within 3 minutes.  During the time of stopping and starting, there is no fire going to the spark plug.  I have replaced engine ignition coil and computer.  When I did a test you recomended to a Paul on the website to check the crank shaft I received a code of 34.  Now, I'm totally confused and I don't know what the problem is.  Do you think it could be my camshaft?  Can you please help me?
Thanks

Answer
Hi Trudy,
No it is not a mechanical problem with the crank or the cam shaft itself. The 34 code unfortunately has nothing to do with stalling out rather the cruise controller, unless maybe a vacuum hose leak, but that is unlikely to cause a stall particularly with no spark. You may have a cam shaft or crank shaft SENSOR that is beginning to fail when it warms up and then it self-repairs quickly when it cools, but not so severe as to set a code.  You may have to live with this for a little bit until it "matures" and sets a code that is relevant.
The spark requires that the autoshutdown relay be activated, which depends upon there being signals from the two sensors, so you have to determine which of those three devices is not working. You can do it with a voltmeter WHEN the engine has stalled out if you are prepared to do the tests at that moment.
So keep checking, and verify your fault code readings by doing it twice or three times to be sure you aren't misinterpreting the count numbers. For example the 34 could really be an 11 and a 23 if you don't differentiate all the pauses. When you write back with something you learn also mention which engine you have.
