Chrysler Repair: thermostat replacement: 3.2/3.5L engine, heater hoses, radiator hose

Question
How to install a thermostat on a 1999 chrysler 300m

Answer
Hi Kelly,
I trust that you are working with the 3.2 or 3.5 engine as these are the ones where the thermostat is differently positioned. It will be found lower down on the engine in a manifold that bolts to the front of the block into which the lower radiator hose and one of the heater hoses is connected. You have to drain the system, collecting the coolant for reuse/recycling. Then after raising the front you can get at the manifold. First disconnect the wires to the oil pressure and power steering pressure switches nearby. Then remove the hoses on the manifold, then the bolts on the manifold. Clean the gasket interfacing surfaces. Use a new gasket, and tighten the bolts to 105 inch-pounds, or approximately 9 foot-pounds. The refill procedure requires the use of a special funnel so check that aspect out beforehand too. I can xerox the pages about that wrinkle and postal mail them to you if you don't have info about that.
