Question
hi my daughter has a 97 concorde and it will not go over 30 mph and all shift position lights are on p-r-n-d-3-2 when this happens the speedometer does not work either, some times the lights go out and the car will start bucking really bad, enough to almost put you through the windshield at this time the speedometer starts to work.i had a code check done on it and they found p-1695 p-1698 p-0171  p-0174 p-0300 if you can give me some direction it would be very appreciated iam not the best mechanic but willing to try

Answer
Hi Scott,
The codes suggest a very basic problem with the engine (powertrain) control module (1695 ans 1698) and until that is resolved the causes of 0300 and 171, 174 are uncertain (even those could be due to the engine control module). I would check the harness and 60-way plug to the control module (it is located under the engine intake air filter housing at the right front corner of the engine compartment). If you can find an LH body (also New Yorker, LHS, Intrepid, Vision) vehicle wreck with the same engine and year model it would probably have a module that is an acceptable replacement. Once that is resolved, you will have another opportunity to see how it runs and determine whether any of the codes appear again or not.
