Chrysler Repair: Chrysler LaBaron 1991 wiper/washer doesnt work, chrysler labaron, amp fuse

Question
QUESTION: I am having a problem with my windshield wipers, the motor has been replaced, but I still can not run the wipers. The wiper arm will not operate the washer fluid either. What do I do now?

ANSWER: Hi Susan,
I assume you have the J-body LeBaron which is either a coupe or convertible. If instead you have a 4-door sedan let me know.
On the J-body cars, the wiper/washer are powered by fuse #28 in the fuse box under the dash on the driver side. So look closely at that one to be sure that it doesn't have a subtle crack in the wire which would be just like it were blown. If your radio is working then the power to the fuse from the ignition switch is OK. If not, then the ignition switch needs to be checked out. Other than that, it would have to be a wire connecting those items or the wiper switch itself. But start with the fuse.

QUESTION: I have a 4-door sedan

Answer
Hi Susan,
The LeBaron Landau 4-door sedan has fuse #18 as the source for the wiper and washer. It is in turn powered by the ignition switch section that runs the radio and the turn signals, so it those are OK the ignition switch is too. So then you would want to look carefully at that 20 amp fuse #18 and if you can't check it for voltage when the ignition switch is in the run position for lack of a voltmeter or glow light, then find another 20 amp fuse and temporarily swap it into that socket and see if that restores the wipers or not. If not then it has to be the intermittant wiper switch or maybe the plug connector at the base of the steering column that carries the functioning of the system has been inadvertantly disconnected so look at the base of the column for any free plugs that need to be reconnected. Other than that it will take some troubleshooting with a voltmeter to find out where the wiring has come undone or the switch for the wiper/washers has failed.
