Chrysler Repair: 2000 Chrysler 300M battery replacement, negative battery cable, 2000 chrysler 300m

Question
Just had a call from my son who lives in another state.  He said he went to an Autozone to have his battery replaced and they told him they couldn't do it. "Too labor intensive.  The fender has to be removed, etc".  Can that possibly be for real?  What is really required to replace the battery in the above car?
Thanks
