QUESTION: my 2.7 Chrysler intrepid engine is making a ticking noise in the top end and occasionally over heats on a big load, oil pressure is low, its suggested the timing is out could this be coursing these problems.
ANSWER: ahhh no  u have a junk motor be prepared to get a new one.
its sludged up and crap. timing is not out unless it was messed with engine wise and it would only cause it to no start or run rough  not tick and low oil pressure.

QUESTION: hello this engine is new and just installed, oil pump seems fine,at low idle there is a few pounds of psi at about 3000 rpm it runs about 40 psi oil pressure, psi is high when engine is cold, when engine worms up psi drops dramatically at idle, sound like its lacking oil at top end, to my understanding the rocker arms are hollow and oil flows through them engine does run rough at top end only at a idle once revved up it smoothens right out if timing is out could this effect oil pressure at a idle, suggested wrong main herrings in new engine coursing low oil pressure, but many old engines with wore out mains don't neck nearly run rough at top ends of engine that why were guessing timing is out??
ANSWER: unless u hook up a scanner and see what the cam and crank sensor is what the retard or advance is on the spark u wont know unless u take the front cover apart and visually see.
ANd who put the motor together ne way?? with out checking timing first. junk yard one?? some one else built it and u just put it in??

CHECKING ENGINE OIL PRESSURE
Remove oil pressure sending unit and install an oil pressure test gauge assembly.
Run engine until thermostat opens
CAUTION: If oil pressure is 0 at idle, Do Not Run engine at 3000 RPM

Oil Pressure: Curb Idle 25 kPa (4 psi) minimum 3000 RPM 170/724 kPa (25/105 psi)
If oil pressure is 0 at idle. Shut off engine, check for pressure relief valve stuck open or a clogged oil pickup screen

QUESTION: our new factory reconditioned engine a 2.7 Chrysler intrepid engine has dual over head cams is making tapping noises, sounds like right under the valve covers and it's quite noticeable(the sound)when idoling?it clears up when engine is reved up,engine has a lot of power at top end, curios to what the noise could be cause its a brand new engine, not even a month old we had a licensed mechanic put it in.

Answer
u keep changing your issue to which u have. First it was overheating and no oil pressure and ticking.
But ne way  was it a short block or fully built aka heads and such? There could be many things depends on what and who did what. Some one could have built the top end crappy who knows. Now how do u know u have low oil pressure? did u put a guage on it and check like what i posted? Have u taken it back to where u had it installed  did they not have some sorta warranty on what they do?  I know if u got the motor from chrysler u would have like a 3 year one on the motor.
