Chrysler Repair: timing belt: 2.4L engine, 98, plymouth breeze, xerox copy

Question
Please help I need to know how long it should take my mechanic to replace the timeing belt on my 98 Plymouth Breeze.  It is a 2.4 Liter

Answer
Hi Christina,
I have to say that the time to do a job is best estimated by published estimates that might be available from a dealer's service department manager who should be able to give you an estimate of the time and labor cost from their point of view. More important, particularly if your mechanic may not have experience with that engine would be for him to have the manual pages that show the steps in doing the job. I would be pleased to xerox copy and mail you those if he would like to have them. I think more than the time issue is that the job be done properly and with the instructions I think a good job in a proper amount of time can be accomplished. It may be recommended to change the timing belt at 100,000 miles, but you may also have the mechanic inspect the condition of the belt by removing the belt cover and rotating the engine by hand to inspect it. It may not need to be changed at this time and according to the manual there is no damage that will result if the belt brakes while the engine is in motion, you will just loose the operation of the engine and need to be towed to have the belt replaced.
