Hi Leonard,
That sounds like a Hall effect solid state detector of the crank position is breaking down and then recovering. The best way to find out is to get a fault code readout of the memory of the engine controller. You may be able to do that with the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing this in an elapsed time of 5 seconds or less. Then watch to odometer window to see if any thing changes such as a fault code number appearing. If not, then you need to go to a shop for a readout via a 16-pin plug that is under the dash near the steering wheel. If you can get a code then write back and tell me what it is. The code P0320 is the one for the crank shaft position sensor which is a Hall-effect based device. I can then tell you what to do based on the fault code number(s) that you receive.

Hello i just got to work on car today, there are no codes..What it does is will be running fine then lose most of its power almost like it is diesling. i have a a crank and cam sense on my scanner.. and also can read rpms when when cranking..some one mentioned ASD relay but that i figured it would not start at all??

thanks

Answer
Hi Leonard,
You may have to check the engine with the scanner when the car has died. It sounds like you have an intermittent issue and with no codes. That is difficult to diagnose except when it won't start. Then check for spark, and the function of the sensors. If you have spark then the issue could be a mixture problem such as an egr valve that is sticking ajar when you try to start it or when you slow down with a closed throttle. Under those conditions the mixture will go too lean to sustain an idle. An ASD would shut off the spark and the fuel pump and there is code for that if it were the problem. So I would carry the scanner and a spare spark plug on-board and be ready to test when it stalls.
