Chrysler Repair: Neon 2001 RAZ radio unlocking., chrysler corp, electrical contact

Question
Roland, I have a 2001 Neon LS with a RAZ radio/cd fitted. After recently replacing the gearbox the radio refuses to accept the code to restart it( the electrics having been disconnected for two weeks). The screen states"wait", the manuals say leave the power on in the accesory position on the key and radio will reset in between 30minutes and two hours.
We have left it in this mode for upto 24hrs and it still says "wait", have you any ideas as we have no local agent.

Answer
Hi Ian,
I am not very familiar with the anti theft system for radios but I would wonder whether you can verify that the code you are inserting is being recognized by the radio memory. Perhaps one of the push buttons is not making good contact so that the actual code you are putting in is not what the memory is looking for. I assume that the radio appears to be 'on' in accessory position of the key. Unless there is a readout of the code to verify that you inserted the code that it is looking for I would be inclined to check the pushbuttons and maybe spray them with electrical contact cleaner from an electronic supply store. Other than that you might try calling Chrysler Corp headquarters in Detroit to see if there was a recall or technical service bulletin on this sort of problem.
Please let me know if you resolve the problem.
