Chrysler Repair: Climate Control Blower speed, 2004 chrysler sebring, chrysler sebring

Question
2004 chrysler sebring hvac blower doesn't blow on low(1) or high(4),other speeds(2,3)OK. Replaced heat and a/c control unit in dash. All other functions work OK.

Answer
Hi John,
The variable voltages for the fan speeds are generated in a unit called the resistor block. I am not certain of its location in the Sebring but it could be either under the dash inside an air duct directly fed air via the blower motor (you may have to remove a panel on the right lower edge of the dash to see the unit and get at it; look for wires and plugs between the blower and a small rectangular panel with wire plugs coming to it from the blower and from the control panel; that is the resistor block which is held in the duct by screws) or it is located in the firewall at the upper passenger side corner where the air intake tube under the windshield flows into the interior heater intake (the reistors would be in the external air duct and the plate that holds them to the fire wall would be in the cabin, above the glove box which you would have to remove to get access to it. You would see a multiwire plug at the upper right corner of the interior of the firewall; this is how it was handled in the convertible model that preceeded the Sebring, I just am not sure which way they are mounted in the Sebring.) I guess it is easier to remove the lower dash panel first and see if you can find the wires going to the block and if not then remove the glove box and see if you can find it on the firewall. Then you can examine the block to see if indeed a couple of the resistors are blown. A new block is available at a dealer or you could find a used one at a wrecking yard.
I'd appreciate knowing where you find it to be located in your Sebring.
(I assume that you don't have the automatic temp control digital readout control unit: its voltages use a solid state device, again located in the air duct near the blower, but that one generates 14 different fan speeds in the LH cars. It would be replaced the same way.)
