Chrysler Repair: Extremely Slow while trying to fill fuel tank, chrysler sebring, chrysler dealer

Question
1996 Chrysler Sebring JXI Convertible, while trying to fill fuel tank, gas will only go in at a trickle, have had hooked up to a computer and told it was a Code 58, a Chrysler Dealer Only code and would have to go to the dealer.  Service Engine Light has not come on, any clues or suggestions on this problem?  Thank you

Answer
Hi M Stanley,
If you are saying that you can't operate the fuel filler spigot handle without it shutting off except at a very slow flow rate, then probably there is a very sharp bend in the pipe that runs from the opening to the tank. You may want to try putting the spigot into the opening at varius different angles to get around this hassle. Try holding the handle at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions or any other orientation that might help get the outlet to be more on the axis of the down pipe. Other than that, you could look under fender to see if you see any dent in the down pipe that might be restricting its flow rate. It might be the same on all Sebring cars so ask other owners if they have the same problem and what they do to get around it. You could ask a service manager at a Chrysler dealership if this is typical or not.
The code 58, whatever it means, is probably irrelevant to your problem. I have not seen that code in any listing of codes for Chrysler vehicles.
Let me know if something interesting turns out to be the cause.
