Chrysler Repair: Dodge durango 4wd 5.9L, chrysler cirrus, upper control arm

Question
Hi roland, I;m back again after the little problem with the chrysler cirrus, and the relay.

I just bought a Dodge durango, but it needs new ball joints, which is not a problem. The only thing that it seems complicated to me is that I bought the parts, but when I took the wheel off, the ball joint is welded to the upper control arm. But, why would they sell me the ball joint by itself if I needed to replace the whole arm.
Is there any way I can break the welded part and then proceed to install the new ball joint?

Thank you,

Answer
Hi Luis,
I have to admit that I have no idea what the suspension of a Durango is like nor do I have any manuals. I wonder perhaps there was a design change from one year to another where it was welded and then removable, but the parts counter didn't notice the year model that you are working on and they should have noticed that it wasn't for your situation. So I would go back to the parts person and ask them to verify what is the part for your vehicle. It may be that a machine shop or welder can take it apart and weld the part that you bought in place. But I suspect that is what you will have to do unless you buy a new control arm with the ball joint already welded to it. I wish I could be of more help to you.
