Chrysler Repair: Fan motor switch, intake plenum, rectangular metal

Question
My 95 Ply.voyager heater fan has only 1 speed...high.
I removed the heater control assy. and used a test light to check it out...
With the connector to the fan switch disconnected, I looked for hot feed...which became a non-hot after it was reconnected to fan switch.
I'm not sure what kind of wiring sequence is used for this application.
Do switches go bad on these cars?
Can it be a bad fan motor?

Help!

Answer
Hi Bilbo,
This is common. The broken part is the fan resistor block which uses a set of resistors to modify the voltage on the fan motor, when it blows you only get high. The block is located so the resistors are in the air intake plenum under the windshield where they are cooled by the air. To get the block out for replacement just go in the engine compartment and on the extreme passenger side of the firewall at the top corner you will see a multi-wire plug attached to a rectangular metal piece held in place by two screws. Remove the plug and the two screws and the resistor block will come out for replacement. (This was the set up at least thru '93 so I assume it applies to your '95. If you don't find it then I would look for a similar set up in the heater/ac console in the cabin, mounted near the fan blower motor on the right side bottom. But that location only showed up in new vehicles beginning around '94 and may not have been implemented in the van because that is a pretty immutable model.)
