Chrysler Repair: radio connections for a 1992 plymoth sundance, radio connections, nozar

Question
Dear expert,

I have a 1992 plymoth sundance. The problem: only one speaker on the passenger side door is working. The car did not come with rear speakers even though it appears to be wired for it. There is a speaker on the driver's side door, but it does not work. I have tried three radios with the same connections. What is wrong? Please help. The wiring does not appear to be broken or disconnected anywhere.

Answer
Dear Nozar,
Because you have tried three radios, I believe that it must be the speaker or the wiring from the radio to the speaker that is bad. Probably the best thing to do would be to remove the drivers side door panel and then you can remove the speaker (there is an electrical disconect right at the speaker proper). Then you could either test the speaker electrically, or alternatively also remove the passenger side speaker and try switching the speakers to see if the problem "follows" the speaker or remains the same. If it remains the same then the wiring is bad to the driver side, if the bad speaker then becomes the one on the passenger side then that speaker is no good. I can tell you the steps to remove the trim panel if you will tell me whether you have the manual or the power window system (the procedure is a little different between the two). If the speaker is bad, then you can go to a junk yard and get a replacement, if the wiring is bad, I can tell you about the wiring from the radio to the speaker.
