Chrysler Repair: Chrysler 300M outsidemirror heating, amp fuse, door hinge

Question
Hello,

I have a 300M 2.7 1999.
My problem is that the outsidemirror-heathing does not work. As I understood it should work when the backwindow-heather is turned on. However, no response on the outside mirrors.

Can you tell me how to find out where the problem lies ?

Thanks very much for your response.

Answer
Hello Theo,
While I don't have the wiring diagrams for the '99 model year (my most recent is '94) the heated mirrors were available in '94 so if we assume there was no siginificant change in the wiring of them I can suggest that the circuit is pretty simple if the heater rear window is working. The power for the mirors branches off of the heated rear window control switch (black/white wire) and from there goes thru a dedicated 5 amp fuse which operates only the mirror heaters. I suspect that you will need to look at the fuse box to find one that is of that size and identified as for the mirrors. The wires from the fuse is light blue/yellow and goes to the mirrors on either side with  disconnects near the door hinges (the split occurs at a 10 wire gray color disconnect on the left side cowl close to the door hinge). So see if you can find the fuse and examine it carefully. It is possible for the fuse to have a crack in the wire that is not visible so check it with an ohmmeter, too.
