Classic/Antique Car Repair: vehicle will turn off, Engine run-on

Question
I had my 1968 Thunderbird at the local Ford dealer over a month to see why my vehicle would not shut off.  They had no answers and charged for a coil and oil change ($275). Now my fuel gage, oil gage, and temperature does not work.  If you could help me on the shutting the vehicle off and I will have Ford repair the gages.

Answer
Hello Bob,

You didn't state HOW the car fails to shut off:

1) Does it simply keep running smoothly on when you turn of the ignition?

2) Does it "Diesel" or keep chugging roughly after shutoff but eventually stops?

If it's the latter, excess carbon in the cylinders or timing would be the first places I'd look.

See if you can't provide more information so I can better help you.

Best,

Bob
