Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1986 rolls silver spirit, fuel pump relay, silver spirit

Question
QUESTION: The car has been sitting for over a month. It will not   start it turns over. I checked all fuses and relays all seem to be ok.I check voltage to fuel pump it was 12 volts for about 10 sec then no voltage while still in start position. jk

ANSWER: Hi Jerry:
A bit of a tricky one here.
Of course if it started fine before and
it's been sitting for a month, something could
a seized up, but not usually within a month, so
let start with the most obvious and work our way back...

1. FUEL PUMP RELAY... Are you hearing the slight humm/buzz
sound when you turn the ignition on? If the relay isn't kicking
in, that would be your problem.

2. IGNITION COIL... Take the cap off the ignition coil to see if you are
getting fire to the plugs. Sometime these coils will just stop generating current.

NOTE: Tell me if it even tries to start or if it's just a consistent cranking with
no attempt to caught. Also, don't press the accelerator Don't won't to flood it.

Let me know what happen. Thanks.

QUESTION: The ignition coil has fire from coil wire to ground The spark plugs have no fire.how do you check the coil.THERE IS 12VOLTS TO BOTH SIDE MOF COIL WHEN KEY IS IN RUN POSITIONJK

Answer
Best way to check the coil is to pull the cap off
and place it next to the tip then have someone try
to start the car. You should see a strong field of
electrical current (like lighten) coming from the
coil and trying to connect to the cap.

A weak or intermittent spark mean bad coil. A strong
study spark means good.
