Classic/Antique Car Repair: vin number history, chrysler club, chrysler products

Question
I recently purchased a 1948 Dodge two door 5 window car. It is supposed to be original. I can't find a listing for  the vin number. It is 31240402. The car has a flat head 6 cylinder with a fluid drive tranny. I am hoping to restore it for my Mom. Any info about it's history would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Answer
Hello David,

I wasn't sure exactly what your question was so I tried to cover all bases:

A) For a general history of your car and Fluid Drive, go to allpar.com. It's a wonderful source for all information related to Chrysler products.

B) For history specific to your car, most people go back through owners and secondarily, DMV. However, the later source has been restricted in recent years due to privacy issues. Another option is to join your local MOPAR club. Members tend to keep track of these old cars and could help you track down previous owners.

C) Join a national club like the Walter P Chrysler Club or similar. Many times, the national clubs will have member specialists for the various models and years of Dodge's. To talk to another experienced owner of your car, even if it's a 4 door sedan, can give you multiple insights on history, repair, trouble spots, parts, etc. etc.

Good luck driving and researching this wonderful car!
