I have a 1954 customline i have an adaptor to bolt a sbc  up to the fordomatic transmission will the fordomatic hold up to a 327 chevy

This question is like "when did you stop beating your wife". It depends on how you treat it. But remember that these transmissions were used in the pick up trucks hauling loads and trailers. I used to haul a heavy car trailer with my 56 pick up with this transmission. The trick to keeping the transmission going in these units is to keep on top of band adjustments and linkage adjustment. The band adjustment tools show up on E bay every once in a while and are not that expensive when they do show up and the linkage adjustment procedure is covered in vintage Motors and Chilton manuals. They too can be bought on E bay for short money. Good luck.
