Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1941 Dodge---convert from 6 to 12 volt, altinator, voltage reducer

Hi, can you tell me about changing my 6 volt system to a 12 on my 41 dodge p/u.  I'd like to switch to an altinator but not sure about the wiring and what to do about the wires on the regulator thats on there now. Also what to use to run my 6 volt acc. like heater and gauges.   Thanks, Pete

You need to decide what alt first and then go on its wiring scheme (internal reg, ext, intergrated, etc)

As for as assy, get a voltage reducer (JC Whitney) and run 6-8 volts to these. I always used 8 volts for improved performance on heater and fan. Gauges can be staight 6.
