Classic/Antique Car Repair: signal light problem, good luck jack, chevy car

Question
I have a 1964 impala with original wiring... I need to know why when I turn my left signal on the BRIGHT LIGHT sign flashes in the dash instead of the green flsher light? If I turn my bright lights on instead of the BRIGHT LIGHT sign shows in the dash the left green signal light comes one. The rear signal lights are so faint that you cannot see them flashing. The front light flashes fine. It seems like the left flasher and the bright lights are crossed up some kind of way. I have had this car for awhile and it seems like it just happend over night. Thanks for your response

Answer
Wow, I have no idea what is going on.  The main thing is that it worked OK in the past.  That means your wiring is not crossed up.  No electronice are involved since they did not use that back then.  It must be a feed-back problem.  We used to be able to turn the turn sig. on while pushing on the brake and play the radio without having the key to the car.
It could be some old worn wires rubbing together.  Do a good visual check of the wires that you can see.  I bet you lost a ground somewhere.  You need the ground to get the proper voltage, and that is why the bulbs are dim.  Try to put a jumper across a few things to make sure everything is grounded.
That's all I can think of.
Now find yourself a chevy car club and join it.  They will be able to answer all your questions and be happy to do so.
good luck.
