Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1957 chevy electrical, resistor, jumper

Question
I swapped engines 6cyl to 305v8 alternator conversion.I tried to start the engine, when I leave the key go the engine shuts off.Electronic Dist, Coil wired to Distr. Am I missing a wire. What should I be looking for?

Answer
yes, well sort of, you are missing the wire to the coil that runs to the ceramic resistor on the firewall. The resistor steps down the voltage to the coil form 12v to 9v once the engine starts to extend the ife of the points and coil.

You can check this by using a jumper around this or just attach both wires to the same screw of the resistor. It will then stay running when you let go of key.

Replace resistor.
