Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1962 Impala, dr ht, vcca

I have been given a 1962 4 door hard top impala, It is in very good shape . I have papers stating it is stock 327/300hp. I cannot find another on the net . Are these rare to have this engine combo in the 4 door? . Can you still rebuild these to Factory specs?

1962 Impalas were built in very large quantities (over 700,000 of them)- and most of them were 4 door sedans and hardtops.  As for the engine, the standard engine was the 283 with 170HP.  The 300HP 327 was optional at extra cost, but I have no records of how many were so equipped.  My guess is that most of those went into SS 2 Dr HT models.  Beyond that info, I can't tell you much.  The real high power engines for that year were the 348 and 409 engines, with 380 or 409HP, respectively.
