Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1974 VW Beetle accelerator cable, accelerator cable, accelerator pedal

Question
How do I replace this cable?  The fitting snapped off of the end that is attached to the accelerator pedal.  I'm not sure how to attach it to the pedal.  I was thinking about somehow connecting the new cable to the old one and using the old cable to pull the new one through the housing to the back of the Beetle (the cable is still attached back there and it is easy to see how to connect at this point)  Can you help me with this please? Thank you!

Answer
The cable comes out from the front and is inserted  through the tube from the front. I don't think that you will be able to pull the old cable out or insert the new cable through the tube with another cable or string attached to it. The front of the cable has a loop around it that slips over a hook on the gas pedal.
