Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1940 dodge coupe, google search, mopar parts

Question
Do you know where I can find the headlite rims for a 1940 dodge coupe? I was told that the 40 fords have the same rims, is this true?

Answer
If you mean the thin stainless steel retainer rings that hold the sealed beam bulbs into the headlight body, those are readily available from just about any car from 1940 on until the end of 7 inch sealed beams in the 70s.  You just need to match up the locations of the 3 screws - I suspect they are the same for most if not all cars from that era, since the bulbs were standardized.

If you mean the outer trim (called "headlight door" in the trade), you'll have to contact one of the MOPAR parts dealers - or find a wrecking yard that specializes in antique cars.   Only 1940 Dodge will work - whoever told you Ford was the same is not correct.

Try Andy Birnbaum in Massachusetts - he has many old MOPAR parts.  Just do a google search on MOPAR parts and you'll get a long list of folks in the business.
