Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1961 Cadillac 62 Series water pump, santa fe springs, napa store

Question
While driving my 61 Cadillac from Minneapolis to Chicago today, the water pump went out.  I had to leave it at the Wisconsin Dells pending my getting a pump, installing it and continuing my journey.  Can you get me one quickly?  390 engine-no air.

Answer
I'm not a parts source, and I closed my repair shop 15 years ago - also I'm about 3000 miles from your car!

The water pump is easy to change, but you will probably have to send in the old one to have it rebuilt - I doubt you will find one on the shelf anywhere.  Egge Machine Company can rebuild it for you - they're in Santa Fe Springs, CA - and there are others in that business too.   Or, you can take it to a NAPA store and have them send it out for rebuilding.

Sorry, there is no easy answer.  If you are not up to doing this yourself, I advise you to have it flat-bedded to a mechanic you trust - the car will be tied up for a couple of weeks while the pump is rebuilt and re-installed.

Don't shoot the messenger!
