Classic/Antique Car Repair: No compression - all cylinders, head gasket, timing chain

Question
Although my vehicle is an MGB, my problem will possibly apply to any engine.
The engine blew its head gasket while driving the car, it ran rather sporadic til I could it down. While replacing the gasket, I checked for any cracks in the head, block and pistons. After re-assembly, Engine turned over too rapidly. I checked for spark(had it), Fuel(had it),compression and had non on any cylinder. Not sure if it is rings or possibly timing chain or maybe something else. Have any thoughts on this?
Thank you for any input you might supply. LEE

Answer
I can't tell you for sure what is wrong, but I strongly suspect your camshaft is not turning.

Take the valve cover off the top of the head and watch the valves as you crank the engine - I'm betting you won't see anything moving.  If that is the case, take the front of the engine apart and see what has let go in the timing hardware - there are many possibilities, but whatever it is will be visually obvious.

You will have to retime the valves when you get it back together.
