Classic/Antique Car Repair: stuck sensor, muffler shop, grip wrench

Question
Hi Dick, this is actually about a newer vehicle, but it is a "classis" problem that I really need help with.

I was trying to remove the O2 sensor from my cat. converter yesterday using the correct slotted socket and to make a long story short, I rounded off the shoulders of the sensor.

Got any ideas on how I should proceed trying to get it out?

Thanks!

Kip

Answer
I'm shooting in the dark here, as I don't even know what kind of car we are talking about, or what kind of access you have to the O2 sensor, but if you can get at it, grab it with a Vise-Grip wrench and first tighten it a tiny bit to break the rust loose, then unscrew it.  If you can't get to it well enough to do that, take it to a muffler shop and ask them to change the O2 sensor for you.
