Classic/Antique Car Repair: interior problom, loose debris, roof insulation

Question
i have a 1978 buick regal and the roof interior is falling off right now it is held up with tacks. how do i fix this without having to dring it to a shop?

Answer
There is no easy answer to this.  Just about all cars of this era used the same technology - the headliner material has a foam backing, and it is glued up to the roof insulation material.  With age, the foam deteriorates so much that the glue has nothing to hold on to.  People try to spray new glue through the edges to hold it up, but it never works for more than a week or so.  The only answer is to replace the material and the foam, after removing all the loose debris from the old insulator board.  This is a messy, time consuming job, and it is very frustrating to do yourself.  My advice, which you don't want to hear, is to take it so an auto upholstery shop and let them do it for you. You should be able to get it done for around $150, maybe less.

I'm sorry, that isn't what you wanted, but its the truth, my friend.
