Classic/Antique Car Repair: no subject, 383 stroker motor, spring problem

Question
I have a 383 stroker motor, professionally built, it has about 1500 miles on it since it was installes in my chevelle. I noticed that it bagan to ping and knock when I stomp on it, I tried adjusting the timing to fix the problem and it didn't. I pulled the valve covers and noticed #1 cly. intake had hardly any movement when running, checked the push rod and it was straight, did a complete adjustment and still little rocker movement. Is this a lifter, flatten cam or spring problem?

Answer
Rick ;
 Hi  well it sounds as if you blew a lifter as it is to new for the cam to be worn out. and if the push rod is ok , and the stud did not pull up from the head , than the lifter is shot. also if you did not break the valve spring.... I would see what type of a warenty you have on the motor  .  ok >>
