Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1970 GTO, pontiac oakland club, desert valley

Question
My husband has a 1970 GTO (400 eng. 4 spd), the linkage from the shifter-trans. - rev. switch we are unable to locate.  I have found a rev/neutral sw. which I've been told is ok. True?  Also...cannot locate linkage.
 HELP!!!!

Answer
If the parts are missing from the car, and you cannot get the person who is responsible to help you, your best bet is to contact the local Pontiac - Oakland Club and find out where they gather each month.  Someone there will be very happy to help you out, and may even know exactly where to get the parts.  There are a very few junkyards who specialize in old cars, but I don't know where you are located, so I can't recommend one to you.

Desert Valley Auto Parts in Phoenix has many old car parts, and Memory Lane Auto Wrecking in Los Angeles also has quite a few old cars.

Someone in those cities has an advantage in being able to go there and remove the parts themselves.  Otherwise, you are going to have to trust the yard operator to understand what you need.  The linkage is going to be the problem.  If you are sure the car originally came with this transmission, you're in luck because you can use one from any similar car.  If the car was originally an automatic (as most were), you may be in worse trouble, because you have to find out exactly what transmission etc. is in your car.

Sorry not to be more help, but that's about all I can tell you from here.

Dick.
