Classic/Antique Car Repair: Degreasing an old engine?, spray cans, auto parts store

Question
What products and process would you suggest to degrease an engine that has been pulled and completely dismantled?
Thank you,
Ryan

Answer
Hi Ryan:

The engine and its assorted components are completely disassembled, eh?  Well, assuming you don't have a parts washer (kind that recirculates solvent through a hose/brush). I 'd proceed any number of ways.
* Get a couple of spray cans of "Gunk" at the auto parts store (or a quart of liquid "Gunk"and a parts cleaning brush and then scrape off as much thick stuff first, then spray or brush the parts down with the Gunk, leave them set for awhile like 1/2 hr and scrub with the brush (also best to do this in the sun or leave theparts to get warm) then hose down with hot water under some pressure, if possible, if not, then use regular garden hose cold water.  Might have to repeat the process a time or two.

You could also load parts up and take them to a high-pressure car wash type place and spray them there.

You will get dirty and splattered anyway you go, so wear old clothes and rubber gloves.

Have fun!
