Dodge Repair: Steering column

Question
Replaced steering column on 2006 Dodge Caravan. New assembly has its own key, does the factory installed remote starter need reprogrammed?v
Can start the engine now but will quit right after start

Answer
Hi Chris,
Let me look into that question in my '06 manual.
In general, the start then immediately die is a symptom of an anti-theft system that is not programmed to accept the input from a sentry key (the type with the bulge in the key head). Presumably the new assembly has a properly programmed key to satisfy the module which came with the assembly.
Does that new key work in the steering column lock to start and run the engine?
I am not as familiar with the remote starter system for starting the vehicle but I suspect that if that new column is where the remove communicates to, that it too needs to be programmed to recognize the remote starter device that you are using.
I will see what I can find about the re-programming.
Is there some sort of name associated with the remote starter device?
Please read the PS (below) and respond to it.
Thanks,
Roland

Follow-up answer;
The '06 manual did not mention a remote starter as part of the security system. It does describe how to program new keys into the system, which requires that you have 2 already-programmed keys. That requires that the new key be inserted into the lock. That is obviously not available to do with the remote starter device. Also it says that once the new key is programmed it cannot be re-programmed.  So I wonder about whether the remove starter can be re-programmed.
So, you may need to contact the dealer for information about whether the remote can be re-programmed and how.
Thanks for the rating and nomination.
