Dodge Repair: Dodge 2003 Van: intermittent blower motor, dodge grand caravan, blower motor resistor

Question
Roland,
Thank you in advance for your help.  I own a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan with approximately 159,000 miles.  About three months ago the AC/Heater blower in the front began to act up.  The blower in the back works well and consistently.  The front blower however does not work all the time, sometimes it works right away, sometimes not at all.  On other cases it does not work and then once the car moves forward it does begin to blow air.  Any suggestions?  Again, thanks for any help you can provide.

Richard

Answer
Hi Richard,
It could be the fuse's internal wire is cracked and that may conduct or not conduct at random so check 40 amp fuse #10 in the main power box to look carefully at the internal wire. Otherwise it could be the front blower motor relay in the same box is flakey, or the blower motor resistor block which is a voltage divider that provides the various speeds may have an intermittent resistor in it, or the blower motor itself may be flakey, or the speed control switch. About the only way to find out would be to wait until it doesn't work and then trace the circuit to see where the voltage chain has opened up along the pathway.
Let me know if you want to check through the circuit with a 12v test light or voltmeter and I can tell you where to do the checks. I assume this is a manual temp control unit, correct?
Please 'rate' my answer (see below).
Thanks,
