Dodge Repair: 2003 Dodge Stratus Sedan ES, credit cards bills, 2003 dodge stratus

Question
My husband and I are disagreeing on this so I thought I would ask an "expert". So here goes...Our 2003 Dodge Stratus  has cost us much money in repairs these past few yrs. My husband insists on taking it to the same place. I feel that they just listen to what we "think" the problem is and fix that and then we pay about 200.00-800.00 and then have to go back in a few days and "it wasn't that, it is this now" so they fix something else and then we pay more and they see we just put it on credit card and like it doesn't matter but our credit cards bills are maxing out because of our car repairs. OK so even if you just put all of that in the back of your mind and keep it there, here is the problem today. Last week our AC went out. It would work, then stop, then if we shut it off it would work for awhile then stop again. We took it to that place and they listened to my husband say "it probably needs free-on as its a 2003"...so they charged us 113.00 to put free-on in. We got it home & it stopped working again...we took it back and they said "something is clogged probably the ac filter, so charged us 185.00 and put in a new filter"...we had it home from Thurs to Sat and on Saturday it stopped totally and blew hot air! So hubby took it back again and they have had it 3 days and yesterday were ready to give it back and do nothing  because they ran it on their "machine for 2 hrs and the ac didn't stop". So hubby asks them to take it out and drive it. They do that and it stops and they call and say it now needs a new compressor and they would get a slightly used one and it will "only cost us now 430.00!" I keep telling my husband something is not right. They should have known it was the compressor the first time shouldn't they have?? Why do we have to bring our car back 2 and 3 times EVERY time something is wrong. Hubby says because they "are trying to save us money by doing the minimal thing first"...HELP???? Maybe he will listen to you if you write back...Or maybe I will shut up and stop complaining...but something is just wrong. Now I looked them up and they are in BBB and have an A+ rating (or at least their main company does)....thank you so much..

Answer
If this was my vehicle I would take it back to the shop to have the compressor replaced. But before signing the repair order I would have them credit the quoted repair with the amount I had already spent because they missed the compressor failure the first time. If they hesitate or refuse, I'd walk away and find another shop.
