Dodge Repair: 95 grand caravan dome lights, jam switches, interior lamps

Question
QUESTION: My 95 Grandcaravan interior lamps do not turn on when I open any of the doors. They do turn on manually. The "door ajar" light comes on in the dash for all the doors when open.I have checked the bulbs all are good. I don't know why the won't come on. So my question is what else could it be? What am I not checking?

ANSWER: You should first remove one of the door jab switches to make sure the plunger moves freely and that the wires are still connected to it. If the switch is OK, check the wiring harness under the drivers door sill plate for broken wires.

QUESTION: Will the "door ajar" light come on if the jam switches are bad? What I mean is the "door ajar" light operates properly with opening and closing of the doors, gate and sliding door so I don't believe it could be those. And no broken wires. What else could it be?

Answer
Yes, the Door Ajar lamp will come on if the switch(es) are bad. Specifically if the plungers are broken or out of adjustment, especially those on the sliding door. Beyond the causes I have listed, you could also have a problem with the Body Control Module, The Cluster or any of the related wiring. If the door jab switches and related wiring are OK, you will need to take the van to a reputable repair shop for some hands-on diagnosis.
