Dodge Repair: regarding electrical problem, mechanic work, ground test

Question
QUESTION: Too many follow-ups,,wanted me to ask new question.

2004 Stratus w/2.4L   I have a 3 pin connector at the coil side.  (1) ASD pin and (2) coil circuit pins. When using a test light and cranking the engine one circuit blinks fast and bright.  As soon as I hit the 2nd circuit, the test light comes on right away without even touching the key.  The Tone I was talking about before was my multimeter checking continuity.  Could PCM be bad or should I just run a new wire from PCM connector to Coil connector?

ANSWER: unplug the pcm  then check for a short to ground   U cant test for a short to ground on a wire that is grounded by a computer or anything else. Once the pcm is disconnected and if the ohm meter to ground shows resistance  then the wire is touching some where  if it shows OL  then no short to ground.

With the test light and the car cranking U got no flicker on the second coil pin correct?

QUESTION: Correct,,no flicker.  The test light lit up as soon as I touched ground no cranking of engine needed,,,key in off position.  Other pin, needed to crank motor to get flicker.

ANSWER: do the ohm test first unplug the pcm and the coil then check for the short to ground or not  if U dont get one  then bad pcm  if U do have a short to ground  the wire is ground some where.

QUESTION: Hate to bug you,  I must sound brain dead at this point.  I believe you described in detail on what to do the short to ground test before but I can't see my original sets of questions.  I have a subscription to Alldata and I got stuck on a trouble shooting step that I think you maybe describing here.  25 years of doing my own mechanic work and never yet had to troubleshoot electrical like this.  How exactly do I do this last short to ground test ?  Thanks for dealing with my dumb ass !

Answer
unplug the pcm connectors  unplug the coil pack connector and on the 2 wires that u were testing for the ground flicker with the test light use the same test light put the clamp end on the + side of the battery.
Then prob the 2 connections on the coil if they light up on the one that U were not getting a flicker on  U have a short to ground on the wire. If u dont have a short to ground  more then likely bad PCM.
