Dodge Repair: Headlights dont always work on my 96 dodge dakota, high beams, dodge dakota

Question
1996 dodge dakota
3.9 4x4

So my problem is that I will get in my truck at night and try to turn the headlights on but only the running lights and dash lights come on. I know it is not in the main switch because the even when the main switch is off the "brights" switch(on the wiper arm) can be pulled back to make the brights come on. But even when the switch is pulled nothing happens. This has happened three times. I drove home by the moon light (slowly, and in the country). I checked the fuses and look at a bunch of books and web sites but I don't know what to do. I don't want this to happen in the city or when it is dark and rainy. The next morning the lights will work fine.

Also, sometimes when I tap on the gas peddle or right after I start it, the engine dies.  The spark plugs seem to bo good and it doesn't need a tune up quite yet. I don't know if that is related or not.

Answer
I think its the headlight switch and the wiring at that switch is burnt. U have no computer or anything else from the headlight switch to the headlights them self  both are on different grounds  so thats not it. Take apart the headlight switch and see if u have burnt wires that goes into the switch  dodge has a repair kit that comes with a new switch for that issue.AS for the high beams  they are suppose to come on by the stalk if u dont have your lights on  its call flash to pass.
