Dodge Repair: Integrated command module, dodge ram 1500, battery cables

Question
QUESTION: After having a problem with boat trailer lights, I found that the problem was with my tow vehicle (Dodge Ram 1500, 2004).  Upon checking the the wiring at the back of the vehicle, I found that the green wire was not producing current.  Went to the dealer with this explanation and he determined that the "integrated command module" would have to be replaced...about $480.

My question is...can I replace that module myself?  My son is an automtive mechanic but does not do that for a living any longer.  Can we do a "work-around" with the exisiting wiring?  Your comments would be appreciated.

JR

ANSWER: the wire in question is a high side driver  so there is no work around  u can replace it yourself but i would put inline to your harness at the tow part a  fuse so this does not happen again.I live in Atlanta I could take a look at it for u.

QUESTION: Can you give some basic instructions of how to install the module?  Can you direct me to a Service Manual that would help?  Is this something that is doable as a do-it-yourself project.  Your comments would be appreciated.

JR

ANSWER: there really is not much as far as instructions that there is to tell  basic screws and connectors.

REMOVAL
Disconnect the negative and positive battery cables.
Unsnap cover and remove the B+ terminal nut from the integrated power module B+ terminal. Remove the B+ cable from the integrated power module.
Disconnect the gray connector from the integrated power module.
Remove the integrated power module retaining bolt and screw (INTEGRATED POWER MODULE).
Grasp the integrated power module with two hands and slide the assembly in the direction shown (REMOVING INTEGRATED POWER MODULE) to free the module from its mounting bracket. Position the assembly upside down to access the electrical connectors located on the bottom of the unit.
Disconnect the electrical connectors by depressing the locking tab and rotating the connector arm outboard, until the connector is free from the module assembly. Be certain to pull the connectors straight off.
Position the integrated power module on a bench and remove the four front control module retaining screws.
Disconnect the front control module by pulling it straight off the integrated power module.

QUESTION: Thanks for the detail.  Could you tell me where the module is located (under hood or inside car?).  How will I know that I have found the right module?  Please advise.

By the way, did you pull the installation instructions from a manual or just using your many years of expertise?

In any event, I really appreciate your help on this.

One last question, how much should I pay for the mod?

Thanks for all of your help.

Answer
its under the hood  its the fuse box it self. Here is the catch some times they will offer the FCM which is a little computer that attaches to the IPM SO u really done know if u need an FCM or an IPM and u yourself will have no way of knowing until u replace one or both of them. The dcm can be replaced by just removing the 4 screws and it will come off. The imp is removed and then put the old FCM back on it.
