Dodge Repair: 2002 Dodge Stratus SE, auto parts store, negative cable

My cigarette lighter/power outlet quit working and after replacing the two fuses (one inside and one under the hood)it still was not working.  After learning that my daughter spilled a drink on it, I decided to replace the cartridge and unscrewed the old one, went to auto parts store and went to put it in, but have nothing to screw the new one into...was there a wire attached to the old one and could I have let it drop down in the dash assembly?  If so, how do I find the wire?  I am a little afraid of removing the dash assembly because it looks like it wraps to the glove box....

yeah they arnt fun to take out  I have been doing this for years and I have issues with the cig lighter bases in those.
Part of the dash will need to come out in order for u to get to the wire.

REMOVAL
Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
Remove left side console lower cover.
Disconnect wire harness connectors from power outlet.
Twist power outlet retainer from the back of power outlet.
Remove power outlet.
